Forget Brexit – think of the starving British children!
The British elites really, really don’t want to split away from the EU. If they had even an inkling of a suspicion that they could have lost that referendum, they never would have done it.
Of course, the deed is done now. But that doesn’t mean the establishment won’t be dragged out of the EU kicking and screaming. They’re concocting all sorts of insane stories to scare people and try to justify some hypothetical future plan to cancel the Brexit.
Now they’re saying British fields will rot with unpicked produce because Poles are wary of Brexit.
It is a quintessentially British scene: watching the annual Wimbledon tournament while munching on British strawberries and cream.
But farmers here are warning that fruits and vegetables — including their beloved strawberries — could be left to rot in the fields this summer because Eastern Europeans are reluctant to work on British farms following the Brexit vote.
Sure, they’ll let their crops rot in the fields. And if you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you.
Britain still has a 5% unemployment rate, meaning that there’s millions of people who are out of a job. I’m sure if they raised the salaries offered, some Brits would do the job. They’d have to raise the selling prices too, but who cares? It’s better than losing the whole crop.
Alternatively, they can just mechanize the picking process.
Yes, fruit picking machines exist.
I mean, do they really expect the people to believe that the only way to pick fruit is to have migrant workers doing it? How ridiculous is that?
Britain’s immigration policy will be one of the central themes of the upcoming Brexit negotiations, which are expected to last up to two years. And many industries that rely on foreign labor — from construction to cleaning — are anxious about continued access to migrant workers after Britain leaves the European Union.
But the agricultural industry says it is already struggling with a worker deficit.
The media is only amplifying meaningless whining from these farmers in order to push the idea that even after Brexit, it’ll be essential to keep the immigration gates wide open.
But, of course, shutting down immigration was by far the primary reason the people voted to leave the EU. As such, any compromise on this point would be a vicious betrayal of the will of the people.
And I have a feeling their little scheme wouldn’t go unchallenged…
