UN: Syrian Conflict is the Worst Humanitarian Crisis in Nearly 20 Years

Dude, Where's My House?The Syrian conflict has displaced millions. The UN says it is the worst humanitarian crisis in nearly 20 years. The number of Syrian people seeking refuge in neighbouring countries is growing: almost two million have fled to Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt and Iraq.

António Guterres, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said: “We have not seen a refugee outflow escalate at such a frightening rate since the Rwandan genocide almost 20 years ago. The people of Syria continue to suffer tremendously, a suffering that is now further aggravated by the host summer temperatures and particularly stressing during this holy month of Ramadan. Syria’s neighbours have allowed huge numbers of refugees to find safety on their soil, saving hundreds of thousands of lives but that generosity comes at an increasingly heavy price.”
