He was a good boy, just going to school… but then when he was at school, he shot a White woman to death.
WBTV:
A teenager is now in jail after police say he shot and killed a woman in east Charlotte late Wednesday night near an elementary school.
According to police, the shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. along the 4800-block of Shamrock Drive, this is near the Lawrence Orr Elementary school. Initial reports indicate the shooting happened at a basketball court, but police have not confirmed that information.
Officers say when they arrived, they found the body of 35-year-old Angel Marie Carlton and she had been shot. She was pronounced dead by MEDIC.
Police believe the shooting was not random and say Carlton didn’t have any affiliation with the school.
According to police, investigators deemed Montez Stephon McLaurin as a suspect in the shooting.
Carlton’s family has been notified of her death.
Thursday, her sister, Dawn Hollyfield and her mother, Amanda Hill spoke with WBTV by phone. They live in Virginia.
They said Angel Marie was a prostitute and the teenager was a John. They said Angel Marie’s boyfriend told them what happened.
“She went to meet the guy and before he could get close enough to keep an eye on her, to protect her if need be, he heard five shots and seen a man running off. And by the time he got to her she was already dead in the van still holding a cigarette in her hand,” Hollyfield said.
Carlton’s family doesn’t know why she was killed. They say she was a prostitute with an addiction to heroin.
“She was a good girl with a good heart. She just got, the drugs took her over,” Hollyfield said.
“She just gotten in the wrong place at the wrong time. She made bad decisions. She wanted to get off, but she was hooked,” Hill said.
CMPD obtained warrants for McLaurin’s arrest and located him with the assistance of the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team. He was arrested early Thursday morning.
McLaurin has been charged with Murder and Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit Detective.
