Weird Tales: Mormon Imprisoned in Venezuela Returns to US

So this is a whole weird story.

NPR:

Joshua Holt, a Utah native held in Venezuelan jail for nearly two years, returned to U.S. soil on Saturday, and was welcomed by President Trump.

In 2016, the 26-year-old set out for Venezuela to marry his fiancée Thamara Candelo, but ended up in the El Helicoide prison without trial, after police claimed to have found weapons in the couple’s apartment.

A Mormon missionary, Holt had been looking to connect with a Spanish speaker to practice the language, reports NBCnews.com, when he met Candelo, also a Mormon, online.

Holt’s release comes a day after Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., personally met with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. In April, Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., had also met with Maduro to press Holt’s release.

The release comes after he somehow started livestreaming on Facebook during a prison riot a couple weeks ago.

No one has explained how he had a cellphone and an internet connection capable of livestreaming from prison, or why he started doing it during a riot.

You’d think if the white boi in the brown prison had a cellphone with such a great internet connection, some brown person would have taken it from him for their own use.

They apparently weren’t bullying him for his snack stash either.

So, that whole thing seemed fake or contrived somehow.

The whole gun-running thing also seemed fake. It seemed like an excuse to kidnap an American hostage. I don’t know why they wouldn’t have just said “drugs” though, because that would have been so much more believable.

“Twenty-six year old white guy caught with drugs” makes more sense than “Twenty-six year old white guy caught dealing weapons” as a fake criminal charge.

Maybe they just didn’t think of it. Or maybe he really was doing some kind of gun deal that his new brown wife wrangled him into. No idea.

Americans regularly go to Venezuela. I mean it’s not a vacation hot spot, but thousands a year go there. And are not held on fake charges. So potentially, he went there with some money, and his brown gf’s family was like “lemme borrow that, I’m gonna flip some guns real quick.” The house that was raided was the family home of the gf.

The bigger question here is why was this Mormon marrying the goblina in the first place?

People don’t know this, but even though interracial marriage was banned in Mormonism – they only cucked in 2013, so it is still in practice regardless of them publicly disavowing – they made an exception for Native Americans because Joseph Smith said they were the Biblical Israelites.

True story.

Wikipedia:

In the past, leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) have consistently opposed marriage between different ethnicities. Apostle Boyd K. Packer publicly stated in 1977 that “We’ve always counseled in the Church for our Mexican members to marry Mexicans, our Japanese members to marry Japanese, our Caucasians to marry Caucasians, our Polynesian members to marry Polynesians. … The counsel has been wise.” Nearly every decade beginning with the church’s formation until the 1970s has seen some denunciation against miscegenation, with most focusing on black-white marriage. The teachings of church leaders on race and interracial marriage stemmed from biological and social ideas of the time and have garnered criticism and controversy. One exception was intermarriage with Native Americans, who Mormons believed descended from Israelites. In 2013, the LDS Church disavowed previous teachings that interracial marriage is a sin.

BUT as you see there, they’re talking about Mexicans as a separate race from “Native Americans,” which is biologically sound. Northern American Indians in the territory that is now the US were taller, more intelligent and better looking than Southern Indios.

Also, I don’t think the Mormons actually did much intermarriage with Native Americans, or thought it was a good thing to do – it was just a weird doctrinal thing. Or perhaps when they moved out to Utah they were short on women, so it was just a practical matter.

Whatever the particular details of that situation may be, it was a weird move on Holt’s part.

Because even if you’re going to marry some goblina for whatever reason… why would you pick this one?

Venezuela is one of the poorest countries in the world. A white guy willing to marry one of them can basically pick whichever one he wants.

And they’ve got some tier-1 mestiza skanks there.

If I was the American government and this weird guy sent me that weird prison riot video, I would be like “bro, it looks like you’re a weird guy, not sure what your thing is, you’re gonna have to figure that shit out yourself.”

But I guess Maduro was like, “look, we gotta get rid of this guy – he’s weird. Just let him go lol.”
