We need a new economy. In America, we used to have a massive mass-manufacturing economy.
That’s gone now.
All we have in its place is a service economy and a tech economy. Silicon Valley and Wall St. are doing quite well, but the heart of the country is struggling.
Trucking and Ubering have stepped up to give a lot of Americans an opportunity to make ends meet.
But that’s coming to an end very very soon.
The race to perfect robot cars continues despite fears kindled by the death of a woman hit by a self-driving Uber vehicle while pushing a bicycle across an Arizona street.
Uber put a temporary halt to its self-driving car program in the US after the fatal accident this month near Phoenix, where several other companies including Google-owned Waymo are testing such technology.
While the Uber accident may be used to advance arguments of those fearful of driverless cars, it does not change the fact that “transformative technology is coming whether we like it or not,” according to Adie Tomer, a fellow at the Brookings Institution think tank in Washington.
“There certainly will be calls to stop all autonomous vehicle testing, not just Uber’s program,” Tomer said in a post on the institution’s website.
“But, technological progress is hard to stop, and I don’t expect it to happen in this case.”
Furor caused by the Uber accident could keep some cities or states from allowing testing of autonomous cars, or prompt tighter national rules, but there is too much private investment taking place to stop it, according to Tomer.
Yeah, see that’s the thing. Self-driving cars are way safer than cars driven by Asians or women. If we cared about car safety in our society, we would ban these groups from ever driving. This self-driving thing is an expensive solution to an easily solved problem.
Self-driving cars hold the promise of being more attentive and quicker to react than humans at the wheels, and would free people to use travel time more productively or pleasantly.
LOL. All that would do is free people up to fap in their cars on the way to work. You know I’m right.
I ask you, at what point does technology become a detriment to society and no longer a boon? That’s the real question here isn’t it?
Think about all the out of work truck drivers. America would become a worse place without them.
So I say we just ban these self-driving cars. I say we go all Amish on new technology from here on out.
Are we better for having smartphones and all that other niggertech? I don’t think so.
I saw we toss all those nerds in Silicon Valley on a rocket and send them to Mars and tell them to figure out how to build a colony there or they all die. It would be a better use of their time than all these bullshit apps and human-free inventions that just make people lazier.
It’s not that I’m anti-tech per se, but we need to actually think about whether the tech makes our society better or worse before we roll it out.
I think all our efforts should focus on space travel, not on making it easier to send dick pics or putting hundreds of thousands of people out of work.
