Robert Caudill leaves behind a wife and two children.

A 26-year-old Lorain man was murdered late Monday night while delivering food for a pizza chain.

Police responded to the Lake Motel in the 3900 block of West Erie Avenue around 11:30 p.m., where they found Robert Caudill’s body.

Caudill, a father of two who worked for Happy’s Pizza, had been shot.

“These drivers go out and make what little money they can for their families and they get this,” says Caudill’s sister, Tammy Caudill. “He was a loving and caring guy — he would give you anything you want. You didn’t have to rob him.”

His death marks the first homicide in Lorain this year.

Benjamin Davis murdered him so that he could steal his pizza takings.

Police say they located the suspect, 29-year-old Benjamin Davis, a short time later in Amherst.

Davis, also of Lorain, has been charged with aggravated murder, aggravated robbery and tampering with evidence.

Police say they believe Davis acted alone.

Caudill’s girlfriend says he was working to bring home some extra money for the holidays to spend on their two children, ages 5 and 6.

“We knew the job had risk, we knew there was a possibility,” said Erika Mincy. “Never did we think he wouldn’t walk away from the job.”

The incident remains under investigation.
