The Greenville man accused of stabbing his fiancee to death last week went before a judge Monday morning in Pitt County.
WITN had cameras at he Pitt County Detention Center as Calvin Clay Jr. appeared on a charge of murder in the death of his 25-year-old fiance Caitlin Faulkenberry.
The Greenville man appeared somber and told the judge he wanted to be under house arrest so he could go home with his mother and get help.
The judge denied that request, setting Clay Jr.’s bond at $2 million.
His next court date is December 11th of this year, and the judge appointed him a lawyer.
Greenville police said Clay Jr. stabbed his fiance at her Whitebridge Apartment on East Fire Tower Road, then took off from the scene, causing multiple accidents on his way out before police arrested him.
Faulkenberry later died at the hospital.
According to prosecutors, Clay Jr. has past convictions from 2010, 2011, and 2013. Greenville police previously said his criminal record dated back to 2005.
