A man is dead after being shot in the head at a Northwest Fresno apartment on Friday, and the man accused of accidentally shooting him is under arrest.
Coroner’s officials have identified the victim as 65-year-old Gerald Perry.
The shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. at an apartment on Ashlan near Valentine. Fresno police believe 30-year-old Lemont Smith negligently discharged a semi-automatic handgun. The bullet went through the sliding glass door of the apartment and hit Perry.

Officers say the victim was sitting on a couch visiting his granddaughter at the time. Perry was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center and died Saturday afternoon.
Smith was booked into jail for assault with a firearm and other gun-related charges.
