Michael Stubbs had known the simian since pre-school.

An argument on Facebook may have led to a fatal shooting involving two men who had been friends since childhood.

Kenneth Armour is accused of shooting and killing Michael Stubbs on Wednesday morning.

Stubbs and Armour had known each other since preschool, said Kathy Bachmann, Stubbs’ grandmother. They remained in school together through Benson High School.

But recent comments on Facebook about a woman “spiraled out of control,” said Stubbs’ aunt, Stacey Bachmann.

She said her nephew was very outgoing and loved joking around. Stubbs had five children.

“He was all about his children,” Stacey Bachmann said.

Stubbs, 30, spent some time in Iowa working on a pig farm and had moved back to Omaha two months ago. He lived with his grandparents and his uncle, who was young enough that they called each other cousins.

“They hung out together,” said Kathy Bachmann. “The night before he died they came home, ate cookies and watched ‘Top Gun,’ (Stubbs’) favorite.”

Stubbs was shot in the abdomen about 7 a.m. outside his grandparents’ house, at 7906 N. 96th St. He died at the hospital about three hours later.

Kenneth Armour drove round his house at 7 in the morning and killed him with a single shot.

Armour, 31, was booked Wednesday afternoon on suspicion of first-degree murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony.

Stubbs had been outside smoking a cigarette before his first day of work at Old Chicago, his family said. Armour pulled his car up, and Stubbs went to talk to him.

Then, one shot.

Stubbs stumbled into the house and told his uncle and grandmother, “Kenny shot me. Call 911,” and then he collapsed, Stacey Bachmann said.

Kathy Bachmann crouched next to Stubbs, saying, “Michael, stay with me.”

Relatives said they were shocked by what happened. Stacey Bachmann said Armour had helped Stubbs replace windows at the home where her nephew was shot.

“How does a friend shoot a friend?” Stacey Bachmann asked. “Over something so stupid.”

Besides his five children, Stubbs also is survived by his parents; two sisters and one brother; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A funeral will be held Sunday at 11 a.m. at Westlawn-Hillcrest Memorial Park and Funeral Home.

A fund has been created at Wells Fargo Bank called the Michael Stubbs Memorial Fund.

Stubbs was set to appear in Sarpy County District Court on Nov. 18 for a hearing on a requested protection order against him. A woman said in court documents that Stubbs had repeatedly called, threatened and physically abused her from August to October.
