A Percy Street homicide on Friday afternoon was the result of a drug deal gone bad, according to Charleston Police.
On Saturday, police arrested 19-year-old Ahshaad Owens and 20-year-old Phillip Jewel II, both of North Charleston, in connection with the fatal shooting. Police say Owens is charged with murder, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime; and Jewell is charged with murder and armed robbery.
Police say the pair, along with 19-year-old Jarrod Howard, of Hanahan, agreed to meet on Percy Street to conduct a drug transaction. At about 4 p.m. during the transaction, a shot was fired and Howard died at the hospital of his injuries, according to police spokesman Charles Francis.
The Charleston County Coroner says Howard died of a gunshot wound.
Both suspects are currently being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center and have been denied bond.
