Frank Steinsiek was killed when he went to go and meet a buyer for his motorcycle.

One man is dead and another is still on the loose following an online purchase gone bad.

It happened on Wednesday evening when 56-year-old Sherwood resident Frank Steinsiek tried selling his motorcycle to a man who agreed to buy it via Facebook.

“[This] is one of those things that is nationally becoming an issue,” said LRPD spokesman Lieutenant Sidney Allen.

“It’s imperative that you understand that when you are making these purchases that everybody out there do not have great intent,” Allen continued.online forums such as Facebook and Craigslist to broker deals for used merchandise. While it can provide a better price police say it inherits greater risk as well.

In Wednesday’s case Steinsiek was trying to sell his 2009 Yamaha R-1. He agreed to meet the buyer in a parking lot at 1900 65th Street in Little Rock, but when Steinsek arrived police say the man he was meeting shot him in the side and head, leaving Steinsiek on the ground and stealing his motorcycle and truck.

“[Steinsiek] was unresponsive when [emergency crews] found him but that trailer and motorcycle are still missing,” Allen added.

According to Lt. Sidney Allen, Jeramye Morgan Hobbs, 24, of Little Rock, was arrested February 12 and charged with Capital Murder in the death of 56-year-old Sherwood resident Frank Steinsiek.

It isn’t the first time something like this has happened. Back in November two men were shot in the Wakefield neighborhood of Little Rock after they responded to a car ad on Craigslist. Both survived, but the incident still raised concerns.

Following Wednesday’s shooting police are using surveillance footage to try and find leads on the man who pulled the gun, but say they have had no luck, seeking the public’s help to find out who did it, and urging people to double check before brokering online deals.

“You want to try and verify who that person might be,” Allen explained. “See if they’ve made any other sales. We would [also] like people to be more mindful of the places they use for conducting business.”

Police say the truck Steinsiek was driving was a white Ford pickup with an open U-Haul trailer carrying the yellow motorcycle.

Anyone with any information is urged to call police.
