The Albuquerque police officer shot last Wednesday in the line of duty has died.
Sources told Action 7 News that Officer Dan Webster passed away overnight. Police said he had been fighting for every breath after being shot at least twice during a traffic stop near Central Avenue and Eubank Boulevard.
His family, along with several officers, Chief Gorden Eden and Mayor Richard Berry gathered at the hospital late Wednesday night.
Webster died around 2:30 a.m. Crews announced Webster’s final dispatch around 3:15 a.m.
Here is the message Eden sent to his officers early Thursday morning:
“It is with deep sorrow that I inform you our colleague and brother, Officer Dan Webster, has succumbed to the injuries that he sustained during a traffic stop on October 21, 2015. Officer Webster fought valiantly for his life, however, his injuries were too severe.
