Law enforcement across Northeast Mississippi is continuing a search for the suspect who shot a Corinth Police officer early Wednesday morning.
“We’ve got an army of people up here looking for the suspect,” said Corinth Police Chief Ralph Dance. “In addition to us and the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Office, we have the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Marshals Service.
“The officer is OK and in the hospital in Tupelo. He was shot in the chest and the vest protected him. The second shot was in the shoulder. The doctors don’t think it hit any bones, and he should recover fine.”
According to Dance, officer Kevin Parker Jr. and other officers responded to a prowler call around 2:30 a.m. on Bell School Road. The officers did not find anyone in the area at that time.
“The lady who called in the prowler report is blind, so Parker, being the good officer he is, went back around 4:40 a.m. just to make sure nobody was trying to get in her house,” Dance said.
The officer spotted a black male, 5-foot-9 and around 250 pounds, wearing dark clothes and carrying a backpack.
