A Norwegian woman who was raped by three men while studying at Southern Methodist University in Dallas has spoken out about the night she was attacked – and why she decided to go and visit one of her assailants in prison.
Monika Korra, now 25, attended SMU on a full scholarship as a cross-country runner.
However in December 2009, during sophomore year, she was abducted at random from the sidewalk while walking home from a party near the campus about 1.30am with three friends.
‘Before I knew it, I just had someone grabbing me from behind and I had a gun to my head,’ she told WFAA in an interview this week.
Korra’s friends tried to stop the men, but they were threatened with a gun and forced to stay where they were.
According to Korra, the attack started as soon as she pulled into a white van, which quickly sped off.
She was stripped down and sexually assaulted.
‘They raped me one at a time, two at a time, three at a time,’ she recalled
‘They pushed my head towards the floor of the van and told me over and over, ”Do as we tell you… otherwise we will kill you”.’
One of the men forced her to kiss him.
Korra says the attack lasted about 90 minutes.
