Nova Jill Saffles was found dead in her own home, killed by her pet Negro.

The state is probing the Saturday night shooting death of an Effingham County woman in her home.

Nova Jill Saffles, 39, was slain inside her home at 404 North Maple St. in Springfield, said Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Cyrus Purdiman.

Her boyfriend was booked in jail on a murder charge.

Springfield police asked the GBI to help with the investigation.

Luis Vendrell is now in jail on a murder charge.

The shooting appears to be the result of a domestic dispute between Saffles and her 52 year-old boyfriend, Luis Vendrell, Purdiman said. After the shooting, Vendrell was arrested during a traffic stop by deputy sheriffs. He was taken to the Effingham County jail pending murder charges, Purdiman said. Jail logs showed him booked on the charge without bond.

The investigation is in its preliminary stage and is still ongoing.

An autopsy of Saffles’ body will be conducted by the GBI.

Investigators ask anyone with information that could help them to call GBI Statesboro at 912-871-1121, or the Springfield Police Department at 912-54-3061.
