A Tulsa man was arrested Friday evening in the Nov. 22 slaying of a woman just east of downtown.
Stephen Kyle Scyffore, 23, was arrested around 6:10 p.m. on a first-degree murder charge, according to an arrest report. Detectives spotted Scyffore driving a Dodge Avenger in the 1000 block of South St. Louis Avenue, according to the report.
That location is near where Leslie Griffin’s body was found last month. Griffin, 31, was found with a gunshot wound to her head on a sidewalk at the corner of 10th Street and St. Louis Avenue around 3:30 a.m. Nov. 22.
Sgt. Dave Walker said Scyffore lives at an apartment in the area and that authorities waited for him to return home and arrested him when he did.
Walker previously said officers were told by several witnesses that they might have heard a gunshot up to an hour before emergency crews were notified of the shooting.
The investigation determined that Griffin was known in the area and had been described as a prostitute, Walker said.
Walker said the investigation is ongoing, with a possibility of more arrests. He asked anyone with knowledge about the homicide to contact Crime Stoppers at 918-596-2677.
Scyffore was also arrested early Nov. 14 after a two-hour standoff at Woodland Hills Mall, at 71st Street and Memorial Drive. Police said a security guard saw Scyffore seated in a car with a gun in his lap.
He was unresponsive to commands to exit, police said, so they fired chemical pepper balls into the vehicle, and he surrendered.
Police said Scyffore told detectives he had been waiting for his girlfriend, who worked at the mall.
Walker said Friday that Griffin wasn’t that woman.
Scyffore also was booked into the Tulsa Jail on Friday evening on a complaint of possession of controlled drugs after officers found prescription pills in his pants pocket, according to the arrest report.
He was being held without bond on the murder complaint.
