While a party raged upstairs, Tina Bond was strangled to death in a basement apartment.
Bond died around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Entowne Manor, a section 8 housing complex on Reading Road in Avondale, according to a police report.
Multiple residents there said they had no idea anything happened — most likely because of a large party on the first floor — until they saw it on the news Wednesday.
When they found out, some were shocked.
“Iv’e been here 10 years and nothing like this has happened,” a resident said outside the building Wednesday morning.
Police didn’t arrive at the scene until the suspect himself called 911 after midnight.
Mark Chambers, who lives in the building, told a police dispatcher he strangled Bond in his apartment and she was dead, a homicide investigator said.
Bond, 44, was last known to live on Maple Avenue in Avondale, according to the police report. Neighbors said they saw her in the building often.
Chambers and Bond had known each other for about three years and were “friends from the neighborhood,” the homicide investigator said.
