White Woman Was Attacked with a Hatchet and Drowned by Black Robber

Emily Anne Newbegin was attacked with a hatchet before she was drowned.

The woman killed at the Rocky Creek Mobile Home Park died of multiple blunt force trauma and drowning due to assault, the Richmond County Coroner’s Office said.

The Coroner said 33-year-old Emily Anne Newbegin from Martinez was found dead at 308 Carmell Place Monday. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office said the victim was attacked with a hatchet.

Richmond County deputies arrested 47-year-old Kenneth William Howard in connection to the homicide. Howard is facing murder and burglary charges.

Deputies are investigating a homicide at the Rocky Creek Mobile Home Park Monday night, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said the victim is a white female, age 25 to 35 with long brown hair. They have not made an identification yet.

The call initially came in as a burglary on the 300 block of Carmell Place off Milledgeville Road, the Sheriff’s Office said. Broken glass was found on a window outside of the mobile home, investigators said.

The Sheriff’s Office said the investigation is in its early stages. There are no suspects right now.
