And I wonder where he would be if we were trying to teach a “Problem of Jewry” course???
A new course at the University of Wisconsin-Madison hasn’t even begun, but it’s already causing a stir on campus. “The Problem of Whiteness” is described by the university as “a challenge and response to racism of all kinds.”
The course is taught by Associate Professor of African Cultural Studies Damon Sajnani, who is a Harvard fellow and is also a hip-hop artist known as ProfessorD.us. His new course has some lawmakers speaking out.

State Rep. David Murphy chairs the Assembly Committee on Colleges and Universities. He said he objects not only to the class, but also to social media posts from Sajnani that Murphy said celebrated violence against police.
Murphy said the course offering makes him question whether other UW-Madison classes might also be of concern to taxpayers, but he denied reports that he threatened to cut university funding because of the course.
“As soon as you say that the taxpayers have a right to be heard on this, that morphs into legislators want to slash the university, and I never said that,” Murphy said.
In an email, Sajnani declined a WISN 12 News request for an interview “due to the preponderance of white supremacist backlash by Wisconsin Republicans and others against myself and the UW community.” He referred all questions to a university spokesman.

Once every normal thing is labeled “White Supremacy,” there will be no way to distinguish real White Supremacy from white people who are just saying “please, we don’t want to die – just let us live.”
At that point, White Supremacists will have won.
In a written statement, the university said, “All UW-Madison students are welcome in courses like this, which is not designed to offend individuals or single out an ethnic group.”
Meanwhile, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, a group that promotes free speech on campuses, is defending the university and professor’s right to teach the course without interference from state lawmakers.
“We’re not going to stand down. We’re going to continue to raise the issues because free speech on campuses is too important to just set aside,” said Joe Cohn, FIRE’s legislative and policy director.
How can a class called “problem of whiteness” not be intended to “offend individuals or single out an ethnic group”?
