Fortnite is apparently so good that it can change people’s personalities.
One mum is worried about what new game Fortnite is doing to her impressionable young son.
Leo, 10, has become addicted to the game, and his mum has claimed that it has begun to change his personality.
‘It’s fun, you can have your mics and talk and try to kill people and come first,’ Leo told Phil Schofield of why he enjoys the game.
But his mum claimed the game had changed his personality, causing him to shun family time in favour of playing, and making him find normal life boring in comparison to the fictional world.
‘Before he’d go up for an hour to play Xbox then he’d come back down and join in with the family,’ she said, then explained she let him play despite the game having an older age rating. ‘But then Fortnite came along, it is 12s and Leo’s nearly 11, I’m not super strict.’
Leo’s mum said she’d noticed his mood change just after Christmas, when he received the game.
‘It took a couple of weeks,’ she said. ‘I’m strict with time, two hours Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I never had to enforce that with Fifa, but with this I’d go up at 7.45, and he’d be yelling he’s not ready.’
Leo added: ‘This game sucks you in and you don’t want to die, it’s just so exciting.’ But his mum told Holly and Phil one day she had to sit him down and make him realise the game was altering his personality.
‘I had to tell him you’re not acting the way you normally act,’ she revealed.
‘The game is so full of energy and adrenaline that when you pull them off – they are screaming at the television, they’re hiding, they’re calling each other, they are living in it with their friends.
‘When they try and come out of it everything is boring, it can’t compete.’
Leo revealed he’s since had the game confiscated, and that he’s now enjoying life without it.
I have always wanted to have the ability to change people’s personalities. And somehow, this game has developed that ability.
But I’ll tell you what.
I’m not playing Fortnite or PUBG. I have seen too many people get sucked in.
I’ll stick to my retro story-driven isometric RPGs, thank you very much.
But shooting games, yeah – good for the kids. You all need to be desensitized to violence as much as possible. Because shit could get HEAVY before too long.
But they are addictive. So be careful.
Set yourself a timer.
And if mom/mum says it’s time to stop, listen to her.
But honestly, your mom shouldn’t have to tell you to stop. You should develop that ability yourself. Make rules for yourself – like if you aren’t getting to the gym, don’t play video games.
Also – make sure to shill Nazi shit whenever you’re in these games. You’re killing two birds with one stone that way.
