Celebrity culture is mildly damaging to men, as they are given models of men who get laid on TV who do not actually get laid in real life. Romantic comedies show the sensitive guy getting laid. Jewish movies show Seth Rogen getting laid. Not good.
But the effect on women is much more extreme.
Basically, any country that has “Sex in the City” as a thing among females is completely fucked.
And then this bitch comes out and says this shit.
If you’ve heard of Jennifer Aniston — and who hasn’t? — you’ve no doubt also heard any number of rumors about her personal life. There’s the Angelina Jolie-Brad Pitt drama, the breakup with second husband Justin Theroux earlier this year, and the constant concern that she’ll never have kids — all of which is routinely splashed across magazine covers.
As the cover star of InStyle‘s September issue, Aniston is ready to address the speculation about her romances and baby-making plans head-on.
“It’s pretty crazy,” the 49-year-old star tells interviewer and real-life friend Molly McNearney, who happens to be married to Jimmy Kimmel. “The misconceptions are ‘Jen can’t keep a man,’ and ‘Jen refuses to have a baby because she’s selfish and committed to her career.’ Or that I’m sad and heartbroken.
I seriously doubt anyone ever told her she was refusing to have a baby because she is selfish. That is not something that people say.
She is responding to the voice in her own head.
“First, with all due respect, I’m not heartbroken,” she continues. “And second, those are reckless assumptions. No one knows what’s going on behind closed doors. No one considers how sensitive that might be for my partner and me. They don’t know what I’ve been through medically or emotionally. There is a pressure on women to be mothers, and if they are not, then they’re deemed damaged goods. Maybe my purpose on this planet isn’t to procreate. Maybe I have other things I’m supposed to do?”
Yes. Important things, I’m sure.
Women are not happy.
They are less happy then men, in fact.
Return of Kings had a good article about this a few years ago that I think of often.
There have also been several academic papers published on the subject of the “paradox” of women’s happiness declining with their liberation.
It seems that there is a direct inverse correlation between female happiness and liberation.
The Paradox of Declining Female Happiness, from The National Bureau of Economic Research:
By many objective measures the lives of women in the United States have improved over the past 35 years, yet we show that measures of subjective well-being indicate that women’s happiness has declined both absolutely and relative to men. The paradox of women’s declining relative well-being is found across various datasets, measures of subjective well-being, and is pervasive across demographic groups and industrialized countries. Relative declines in female happiness have eroded a gender gap in happiness in which women in the 1970s typically reported higher subjective well-being than did men. These declines have continued and a new gender gap is emerging — one with higher subjective well-being for men.
Here’s the full 48-page pdf of that.
Women were much better as wives and mothers.
But they will almost always choose infinity cocks and male attention, using sex for power purposes, whenever given the choice.
The only option is to not give them the choice.
Honestly, I could give a shit less about female happiness. I care about successful societies, period – and female happiness is not an important metric to me. However, it is simply a fact of life that traditional gender roles make both genders happier – but that women suffer significantly more than men, at least on a subjective emotional level, when these roles are disrupted.
Informing girls at a young age that they are allowed to be wives and mothers would not completely solve this issue, but it sure would be a simple thing that would help. Possibly, it would help a lot. Telling them from an early age that they are going to be empowered by going to college and working at a bank and maybe somehow starting their own fashion brand is horrible abuse.
And altering the school curriculum to present women with “motherhood” as a life path is not out of reach. This is something that could happen under Trump.
It is something we should be pushing for.
