Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook has identified the teenager shot and killed while riding his bike in Erie Saturday afternoon.
Cook identified the victim as 18-year-old Jacob Pushinsky, of Erie. Pushinsky and his friends were riding their bikes in the 200 block of East Eighth Street around 3 p.m. Saturday, when Pushinsky was shot in the upper left torso. He was rushed to UPMC Hamot where he was pronounced dead a short time later, according to police.
Neighbors who live near the crime scene said they heard Pushinsky cry out for help when he was shot. Carolynn Baumgartner said Pushinsky’s friends stayed by his side, as he lay bleeding in the middle of the street. “When he first got hit, he was yelling, ‘someone help me, someone help me,” she said. “And the young boys who had to watch in horror as their friend who they had been having a good time with that day, taken from them so cruelly and viciously, it’s just sad.”
