Zelensky Says Rump of the Ukraine Should Join NATO NOW!

Previously:

This is a pretty desperate demand.

He’s saying that if they just drew a line where the current battle lines are, and said that that was now a part of NATO, it would mean that Russia couldn’t move the line forward without attack NATO.

It’s effectively a call for a “frozen conflict.”

Long gone are the days when the spring offensive was going to build a land-bridge to Crimea. Now, Zelensky is just begging to be allowed to keep the parts of his country he still technically controls.

The Guardian:

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has suggested that Ukrainian territory under his control should be taken under the “Nato umbrella” to try to stop the “hot stage” of the war with Russia.

Speaking to Sky News, the Ukrainian president said that such a proposal has “never been considered” by Ukraine because it has never “officially” been offered.

Speaking via a translation, Zelenskyy said: “If we want to stop the hot stage of the war, we should take under Nato umbrella the territory of Ukraine that we have under our control. That’s what we need to do fast, and then Ukraine can get back the other part of its territory diplomatically.

“This proposal has never been considered by Ukraine because no one has ever offered that to us officially.”

In the same interview, Zelenskyy also said that any invitation should be given “within its internationally recognised border, you can’t give invitation to just one part of a country”.

This is apparently a proposal for Donald Trump.

Joe Biden (or whoever is making his decisions) is trying to ensure the war goes on forever, long after Trump takes office, by creating a situation that is unfixable. But Zelensky doesn’t appear to have much faith in that plan, or he would not be making these kinds of proposals aimed at Trump.

Russia is probably going to try to take as much territory as possible before the presidential hand-over, given that Trump is going to have to do something about this situation, and no one knows what it will be.
