During the final pretrial conference Monday for an Orem man charged with rape, the trial date was postponed tentatively to sometime in October.
Attorneys for Nasiru Seidu, the defendant, met with prosecutors and Judge Darold McDade in chambers Monday morning. Upon returning from chambers, the defense clarified its request.

Seidu’s defense team requested a continuance of the trial for the purpose of rebutting an expert witness for the state, and the scientific basis for that witness testimony, otherwise known as a Rimmasch hearing.
The court found that there were no openings before the trial, scheduled to begin May 30, for the defense to do so. The Rimmasch hearing for Seidu, 40, will be at 10 a.m. June 6. The trial will then be scheduled at some time in October.
Court documents state that in September 2015, Seidu was in a woman’s apartment. At some point, the woman reportedly told Seidu she did not feel comfortable being with him. Seidu then pushed her onto the bed, then to the floor and raped her, despite her pleas for him to stop, reports state.
Did she actually expect him to stop?
