Last week, a thing happened, which was the kind of thing which can slip through the cracks of the news cycle, but which explains so much of what is going on right now.
White supremacists present the gravest terror threat to the United States, according to a draft report from the Department of Homeland Security.
Two later draft versions of the same document — all of which were reviewed by POLITICO — describe the threat from white supremacists in slightly different language. But all three drafts describe the threat from white supremacists as the deadliest domestic terror threat facing the U.S., listed above the immediate danger from foreign terrorist groups.
“Foreign terrorist organizations will continue to call for Homeland attacks but probably will remain constrained in their ability to direct such plots over the next year,” all three documents say.

Former acting DHS Sec. Kevin McAleenan last year directed the department to start producing annual homeland threat assessments. POLITICO reviewed three drafts of this year’s report — titled DHS’s State of the Homeland Threat Assessment 2020 — all of which were produced in August. Ben Wittes, the editor in chief of the national security site Lawfare, obtained the documents and shared them with POLITICO. The first such assessment has not been released publicly, and a DHS spokesperson declined to comment on “allegedly leaked documents,” and on when the document will be made public.

He was only acting briefly, right after Kristajen Nielsen was fired. Chad Wolf is now in charge, so this policy of targeting all efforts at white people might have changed.
What do these documents say about Antifa, I wonder?
None of the drafts POLITICO reviewed referred to a threat from Antifa, the loose cohort of militant left-leaning agitators who senior Trump administration officials have described as domestic terrorists. Two of the drafts refer to extremists trying to exploit the “social grievances” driving lawful protests.

DHS leaders have been much more vocal of late in highlighting federal efforts to target Antifa. In a recent Fox News interview, host Tucker Carlson asked Acting DHS Sec. Chad Wolf why the Justice Department hadn’t arrested and charged the leaders of Antifa and Black Lives Matter. “This is something I’ve talked to the AG personally about, and I know that they are working on it,” he replied.
Tucker should have pressed him harder, I think. I’m happy he asked the question at all, but he should have really nailed him down, frankly.
Of course, it isn’t Wolf’s fault Barr is doing nothing. Wolf doesn’t have the ability to do more than he’s doing.
But Wolf saying, “I have no idea why the Attorney General is not opening a RICO case against Antifa,” would be a powerful soundbite.
Barr’s made it clear he’s not going to explain it. Someone needs to explain it.
Attorney General Bill Barr has zeroed in on the group in the context of the federal law enforcement response to long-running vandalism, violence, and unrest in Portland, Oregon. After U.S. Marshals killed a murder suspect, Michael Reinoehl, who had described himself online as “100% ANTIFA,” Barr touted the operation as a success. The suspect tried to escape arrest and “produced a firearm,” according to a statement from Barr.
“The tracking down of Reinoehl — a dangerous fugitive, admitted Antifa member, and suspected murderer — is a significant accomplishment in the ongoing effort to restore law and order to Portland and other cities,” Barr said.
Yes, Barr is celebrating the botched arrest of a murderer as a major achievement in the fight against Antifa.
When was the last time you heard of a murder suspect escaping law enforcement?
The last person I remember escaping the cops was Jesse James Hollywood, who successfully escaped to Brazil and lived there for five years before being caught. There was a movie made about that, because it was such a nutty, fascinating story.
(I really enjoyed the movie at the time, by the way. But I think it was a little bit depressing, so I probably wouldn’t recommend it these days.)
Beyond that incident, you start thinking of like, Old West outlaws.
Point being: claiming that killing a murderer during an arrest is a big deal in the war on Antifa is absurd and actually ridiculous. I cannot grasp it. Especially since they killed him. It was not a successful arrest.
Meanwhile, the “task force” that Barr put together to ostensibly hunt Antifa is arresting Boogaloo Boys – in fact, entrapping them in terrorist support hoaxes.
William Barr is effectively a part of a conspiracy to let Antifa run wild. Not one single person would question opening a RICO case against them. They might question it when it was announced, but within hours, you could present clear evidence that this is a terrorist organization planning to overthrow the United States government using mass violence. You could publish their communications, and no one could say anything. Not even Nancy Pelosi could manage to say it was wrong to arrest these people.
Barr is choosing not to do that.
What is he going to do after the election when Antifa sets up base in Lafayette Park and launches a siege on the White House?
Muriel Bowser has painted the road leading up to the White House with “Black Lives Matter” in gigantic letters.
This is all set up for a siege.
Without the Justice Department stopping them, I don’t know who can stop them.
What will Trump’s options be?
If he flees the White House, Antifa will take it and occupy it and probably burn it down and then claim that means that Joe Biden is president. The media will accept that.
They might even claim that someone other than Biden is president.
If Trump stays in the White House, what is going to keep this mob from killing him? Who is going to keep this mob from killing him?
William Barr will go on Fox News and say, “wow, yeah, gee, it’s really sad that the White House is being sieged by communists, I think that’s so bad, wow.”
Then he’ll announce new charges against random “white supremacists” as the White House burns in the background.
