I don’t follow boxing anymore.

When 40-year-old guys can win championship belts, the sport is dead.

RT:

Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao rolled back the years to hand WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman his first career loss and claim the ninth world title of his stellar career.

Pacquiao claimed a split-decision win on the scorecards judge Glenn Feldman scoring the fight 114-113 for Thurman.

But the other two judges, Dave Moretti and Tim Cheatham, both saw it the same and scored the fight 115-112 in favor of the 40-year-old, as the crowd inside the MGM Grand Garden arena erupted with approval for the decision.

Pacquiao went from early fight week underdog to fight night favorite with the Vegas sportsbooks as floods of money came in for the Filipino star.

And those holding betting tickets backing a Pac-Man victory were on their feet inside the arena when he dropped Thurman in the opening round with a superb body-shot, right-cross combination that sent the defending champion to the canvas.

Despite that early setback, Thurman recovered well and began to box his way back into the contest in the middle rounds using his slick footwork and swift hand speed.

But Pacquiao would not be denied. Despite being a decade older than his world champion opponent, he showed remarkable energy and stamina levels as he went punch for punch with the American, mixing punches to the head with powerful body shots that had the champion backing away at times.

When the bout went to the scorecards, the arena was buzzing with anticipation that the Filipino senator had done enough to claim the title.

And the arena exploded with joy as the decision was confirmed and Pacquiao was crowned champion once again.

Manny Pacquiao was pretty good back in the day.

But he already lost to Floyd Mayweather Jr.

He’s 40, Mayweather is 42, and everyone knows that Manny would lose again if they fought. He would also lose to any of the other three welterweight title holders, even though he was better than all of them in his prime, just because he’s too old.

So what’s the point of this? There is no intensity.

I think the sport is more or less dead. No young people who are seriously impressive fighters are going to be learning it. They’re all going to be fighting MMA. And as more and more kids start learning MMA at younger ages, that sport is just going to get better and better. The reason that Dagestan is so good is that they were early adopters, teaching technique to kids.

But right now, and for the last 10-15 years, all over the world people have been putting kids in MMA classes. So you’re going to have just a continual increase in the quality of fighters. This will progress for at least another 50 years.

Mayweather vs. Connor McGregor was the last big boxing match, and even though it was retarded circus sideshow nonsense, it was a symbolic death of boxing. MMA is just way more fun.

The issue is the fact that the UFC controls all of these fights, and is a shitty league run by carnies.
