On a Sunday news show (core to our democracy), Nancy Pelosi announced that she never even wanted to defund the police.
George Stepopoloupoouslus hit her with the hard questions.
Stephanopoulos also pressed Pelosi on the rate of rising crime in America and noted the differing opinions among some members of Congress as to how to address the issue. Some have called for an increase in the police force, while other members, such as Democratic Rep. Cori Bush of Missouri, have supported the “defund the police” movement.
“Well, with all the respect in the world for Cori Bush, that is not the position of the Democratic Party,” Pelosi said of the “defund the police” movement, which calls for a reallocation of money from police forces to local community organizations and non-policing forms of public safety.
“Community safety, to protect and defend in every way, is our oath of office,” Pelosi said, adding that she supports Rep. Karen Bass’s campaign plan to increase the force in Los Angeles, where she is running for mayor.
Stephanopoulos also pointed to Biden’s low approval rating as Democrats gear up for the upcoming midterm election this November. He asked Pelosi if she is concerned about losing the majority given the high number of Democrats who have already announced they are not running for reelection.
I doubt she is very concerned about that.
Firstly, the election was so obviously stolen in 2020 that there is no reason they can’t do it again.
Secondly, I am having a really hard time figuring out anything that the Republicans even disagree with Democrats on.
Right now their main issues are vaxing everyone and starting a war with Russia, and the Republicans agree on that.
The Democrats are also in a major war with Joe Rogan and trying to silence everyone else, but Republicans have never, ever done anything to try to prevent that.
So I can’t really see how Republicans gaining the House and Senate would change anything. If anything, Republicans are much more aggressive about wars with Russia and China, at least in their rhetoric.
Republicans are nominally against virus measures, but they didn’t ever do anything to stop that either, did they?
With respect to everyone who died, defunding the police and letting all those violent blacks out of prison has been hilarious.
