I haven’t been following the IRA situation for a couple of months now.
We left the situation last when there were a couple of shootings and talk of a “New IRA” starting a new fight with the UK government for rather vague reasons. A little bit of digging revealed that Brexit raised a lot of concerns in Northern Ireland about the border.
Here, this nerd has a pretty good primer on the topic:
But basically, there is a serious concern over whether there will be a hard or a soft border in Northern Ireland between EU-occupied Ireland and Paki-occupied UK.
This will, apparently, lead to bombings.
BBC:
A senior police chief has appealed for political progress in Northern Ireland after bombers tried to lure officers to their deaths.
Police said dissident republicans were behind the explosion near Wattlebridge, close to the Irish border, on Monday.
PSNI Deputy Chief Constable Stephen Martin called the Fermanagh attack a “reckless and indiscriminate” attempt to kill police officers.
Northern Ireland has been without a devolved government since January 2017.
Power sharing collapsed in a row between Sinn Féin and the DUP over a flawed green-energy scheme. Attempts to restore it have so far failed.
DCC Martin said the bomb attack may have been carried out by either the Continuity IRA or the New IRA.
There have been five attempts to murder police officers so far this year, he said, adding that there was a sense that the situation in Northern Ireland is becoming “more entrenched”.
You take a break from IRA Watch for just a second, and all of a sudden you’ve got bridge bombings, police officers being targeted, no government in Northern Ireland, two different IRAs and if you’ve got a Brit using such strong language as “entrenched,” well, you just know that trouble is brewing.
So, from this moment on, the watch is back on.
That’s right! Rolling coverage of IRA shenanigans is back on the menu, boys!
“But why?”, you might ask.
Well, to my knowledge, there haven’t been any White people in the last 50 years who have even tried rebelling against a Western state, let alone been successful like the Irish have. I don’t think I’ve ever even heard of a White person carrying off a bombing except for Timothy McVeigh – who was no doubt part IRA. Seeing as there’s going to be a Time of Troubles in the US soon, I believe that there is a lot of knowledge to glean from the Irish situation.
