Will we ever learn to respect the unique cultural heritage of the Mexican people?
A 50-year-old man was sentenced to more than 31 years in prison Friday afternoon, March 6, for raping and sexually abusing a child over a several year period in East Multnomah County.
Mario Hernandez-Marquez was unanimously convicted by a Multnomah County jury of four counts of first-degree rape and eight counts of first-degree sexual abuse. The jury also returned a guilty verdict of first-degree sodomy. Hernandez-Marquez received a 375-month prison sentence for his actions.
During the court proceedings, prosecutors said Hernandez-Marquez created a “perfect climate for repeated abuse and trauma.”
“[The victim] was unable to stop the sexual abuse, unable to report the abuse and unable to stand-up against him,” said Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Amber Kinney, who prosecuted this case. “The damage caused by Mr. Hernandez-Marquez may forever surround the victim and her family. It will be a lifelong journey for her and her family as she works through the confusion, pain, suffering, anxiety, depression and rehabilitation.”
The investigation began in 2017 when a young girl told a mandatory reporter that a person she knew, later identified as Hernandez-Marquez, had raped and sexually abused her. Law enforcement determined it had occurred over several years when the victim’s mother was out of the home at work or running errands.
If racists are going to punish Mexicans for their cultural heritage and vibrancy, I think Mexicans should refuse to share their vibrancy, and just stay in Mexico.
