Welp.
I warned you.
Pope Francis has formally approved allowing priests to bless same-sex couples, with a new document explaining a radical change in Vatican policy by insisting that people seeking God’s love and mercy shouldn’t be subject to “an exhaustive moral analysis” to receive it.
The document from the Vatican’s doctrine office, released Monday, elaborates on a letter Francis sent to two conservative cardinals that was published in October.
In that preliminary response, Francis suggested such blessings could be offered under some circumstances if they didn’t confuse the ritual with the sacrament of marriage.
In the new document, the Vatican said the church must shy away from “doctrinal or disciplinary schemes, especially when they lead to a narcissistic and authoritarian elitism whereby instead of evangelizing, one analyzes and classifies others, and instead of opening the door to grace, one exhausts his or her energies in inspecting and verifying.”
It stressed that people in “irregular” unions — gay or straight — are in a state of sin. But it said that shouldn’t deprive them of God’s love or mercy.
“Thus, when people ask for a blessing, an exhaustive moral analysis should not be placed as a precondition for conferring it,” the document said.
This is breaking news at time of writing.
There is a lot of stuff I have to say about this.
A lot of stuff.
First, I’m going to need to have all the people who said it was impossible for this to ever happen to apologize to me. No, no. I can’t wait for that. Even if they agreed, it would take a thousand years for that many people to apologize.
Don’t think I’m gloating.
I’m just so tired of being right about everything.
Just to be clear: the Vatican is officially endorsing and preaching immorality, which means that several hundred years of Catholic doctrines about the Pope are wrong. It doesn’t mean the Catholic Church is doomed or any other such hysterical thing.
I was really trying to be nice to Catholic Pope defenders who were mad at me for saying this was inevitable. I said “let’s just wait and see,” as it was so glaringly obvious that this was coming down very soon, following the various statements made in the last few months.
And here it is.
I really feel for the people who didn’t want to believe it was possible, who believed that God would do a miracle to prevent this from happening, because they believed it was impossible for the Church to bless sin. I can’t imagine how hard this must be.
I don’t want to say anything nasty.
But the threshold has been crossed, and there is no longer any room to claim that the Vatican is going to use its authority responsibly. There is no room to claim that “it can’t happen.”
I know some people will continue claiming that. But this is the point at which I no longer feel a need to humor them. This is real life, it’s happening now, and all of the Hell that I’ve envisioned the Vatican endorsing will now be unleashed.
It’s Not a “Sensationalist Headline”
I don’t want to hear about “sensationalist headlines.”
The Vatican just said that Catholic Priests can bless anal marriages in Catholic churches all across the world. There is no sensationalism here. Claiming that it somehow makes a difference that “he said it’s a sin tho” is delusional. From the beginning, he’s been doing a tip-toe process of rolling this stuff out, one step at a time, but I was told, explicitly, by all of these traditionalist Catholics, that it was impossible for the Church to officially endorse what they were doing in Germany, and now he has.
The faggot had to do it right before Christmas too, huh?
