Barack Obama this week said that “defund the police” is bad optics.

You can see that in the above clip, but I don’t recommend watching it, because it could cause your mind to collapse. This is apparently the how they’re formatting interviews to appeal to the TikTok generation now. I ultimately had to turn it off because of the swipe noise, but that was after the jump cuts and zooming in and out made me vomit in my mouth.

Here’s what he said:

It’s interesting. We take for granted that if you want people to buy your sneakers, that you’re gonna market it to your audience. If a musician drops a record, they’re gonna try to reach certain audiences, speaking to folks where they are. It’s no different in terms of ideas.

If you believe, as I do, that we should be able to reform the criminal justice system so that it’s not biased, and treats errybody fairly, I guess you can use a snappy slogan like “defund the police,” but you know you’ve lost a big audience the minute you say it, which makes it a lot less likely you’re going to get the changes you want done.

But if you instead say “let’s reform the police department, so that everybody’s treated fairly,” you know, “divert young people from gettin’ into crime, and if there’s a homeless guy, can maybe we send a mental health worker there instead an armed unit that could end up resulting in a tragedy?” Suddenly, a bunch of folks who might not otherwise listen to you are listening to you.

So the question is: do you want to actually get something done? Or do you want to feel good among the people you already agree with? And if you want to get something done in a democracy, in a country as big and diverse as ours, then you’ve gotta be able to meet people where they are, and play a game of addition and not subtraction.

As anyone who has ever read anything about politics is aware, this is the single most basic principle of politics. I agree with it, 100%.

This is the definition of “political optics”:

“Presenting your message in a way that maximizes your appeal to your target audience.”

It’s very simple, and I’ve broken my neck trying to explain this to idiot right-wingers, despite the fact that it is literally the single most basic element of politics.

However, there are other dynamics at work here.

What Obama obviously isn’t acknowledging is that there is also a good cop/bad cop dynamic. He can’t acknowledge that, because it’s vaguely a secret, and he’s playing the good cop.

Basically, you want to have radicals demanding more than you actually are trying to achieve. That is how the Overton Window moves.

What you do is send people out there with an extreme and radical message, such as “get rid of the police completely,” and then force people to become accustomed to the fact that there are people who believe this should happen. Once people understand that there are people who believe this should happen, the center moves in that direction.

Then, someone like Obama moves in and says, “well, we don’t actually want to completely abolish the police, we just want to stop punishing black people who commit crimes, most of the time, and we want to legalize heroin.”

Then, doing this thing Obama is saying, which previously would have been unfathomable, all of a sudden sounds normal in comparison to what The Squad is saying.

I personally engaged in this behavior for a long time on this website. In fact, it was the entire purpose of this website when it was founded. I said: “I will take the most extreme right-wing position on every issue, and that will change the political climate.”

In 2020, I decided that I had to take a slightly softer tone, given that there just weren’t any adults in the room on the coronavirus issue, and I needed to put that message out there. Furthermore, I had decided that there was less of a need for the extreme rhetoric. Most importantly, I was no longer able to penetrate the mainstream, due to the extreme censorship, which made the goal of desensitizing impossible.

The mainstream media knew that AOC and “The Squad” were fringe in their promotion of this agenda, but they covered it very closely, and presented it as reasonable, desensitizing the entire population to it. Now, their work is going to begin in getting through their actual agenda.

AOC is out there attacking Obama now, saying he’s not hardcore enough.

What if activists aren’t PR firms for politicians & their demands are bc police budgets are exploding, community resources are shrinking to bankroll it, & ppl brought this up for ages but it wasn’t until they said “defund” that comfortable people started paying attn to brutality

The whole point of protesting is to make ppl uncomfortable.

Activists take that discomfort w/ the status quo & advocate for concrete policy changes. Popular support often starts small & grows.

To folks who complain protest demands make others uncomfortable… that’s the point.

This is obviously all part of the plan. She will hold her vanguard together, and Obama will bring the boomers around, and they will let blacks out of prison, make blacks and other colored people above the law, and start feeding massive amounts of opioids to white youth.

It’s all kind of like theater, this manipulation of the perceptions of the masses in order to get them on board with an agenda.

Democrats and liberals, and Jews in general, have been extremely successful in pushing their agenda to transform America. With this situation right now, this defund the police thing, you can see the entire process at work. I have always studied this process, and tried to apply it to right-wing politics.

I was attacked for my desensitization strategy, I was attacked for explaining what optics are, I was attacked for toning down the rhetoric – but I stayed strong, and pushed forward, and it’s now all happening.

As I said yesterday, this is finally paying off, bigly, with the rising America First movement.

This was always the goal: a youth vanguard, who are intelligent and aware of all of the issues, understanding the concept of political optics and not showing their power level, while leading the masses of boomers and other people who are not tapped in.

The right is actually in a position where we can move directly forward in the correct direction with the correct agenda.

It might feel like it is too late. Maybe it is too late. I don’t know. No one knows that. What we know is that for the first time in more than 100 years, we have a clear path to implement political change through a mass movement.
