One person was killed and four others injured this morning during a stabbing at Good Shepherd Medical Center.
Police have a suspect in custody, but they have not released his name.
The woman who was killed was 57-year-old Gail Sandidge, according to the victim’s sister.
According to Good Shepherd Medical Center CEO Steve Altmiller, two employees and three visitors to the hospital were stabbed during the incident, which happened about 7 a.m.
“The Good Shepherd family tragically lost a member of its team this morning,” he said.
The stabbing happened in the hospital’s Ambulatory Surgical Center at 703 E. Marshall Ave., according to police spokeswoman Kristie Brian.
Of the injured, one remains in critical condition while the others have been listed in good condition, Altmiller said.
The victims were treated at Good Shepherd’s emergency center, he said.
Altmiller nor the police have released any names of the victims or the suspect, but said an update on the victims’ conditions would be provided at about 4 p.m.
Police were called at 6:59 a.m. and the suspect was arrested at 7:07 a.m., Brian said, adding there are no other suspects being sought.
Scanner traffic indicated the facility was on lockdown after the incident, but police did not confirm this. A reporter at the scene said people were able to enter and exit buildings at Good Shepherd.
UPDATE: The suspect in a fatal stabbing this morning at Good Shepherd Medical Center is a 22-year-old Longview man.
According to the Gregg County District Clerk’s office, Kyron Templeton was arraigned on a charge of murder and four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Templeton appeared in the 124th District Court, where bond was set at $2 million for the murder charge and $150,000 on each aggravated assault charge.
According to an affidavit for a search warrant, the stabbing happened on the second floor of the Ambulatory Surgical Center just before 7 a.m.
As Officer Kirby Deloach neared the hospital, he saw a man running from a parking lot at the facility, according to the affidavit. Deloach identified the man as Templeton.
According to the affidavit, Templeton told Deloach, “they” were trying to kill his mother.
