The man who shot and killed a mother in Northside last year has been found guilty of reckless homicide.

Carlos Richardson was found guilty of reckless homicide on Thursday. He was acquitted of a greater charge of murder.

Police said Richardson shot and killed Candace DeMoss, 20, at a home in the 4300 block of Beech Hill Avenue in Northside on Nov. 18, 2012.

Richardson was also found guilty of tampering with evidence and having a weapon under disability.

Family members said DeMoss was the mother of a 2- and 4-year-old.

Investigators said DeMoss had been staying with Richardson at the time of the shooting.

“He took the life of my niece, she’s 20 years old.  She still had her whole life ahead of her.  I feel that the bond, he shouldn’t have a bond at all. He should sit in jail. It really makes me sick to my stomach,” the victim’s aunt, Amanda Abrams, said at Richardson’s first court appearance.

Richardson will be sentenced on Dec. 17.
