Imagine the media attention this story would’ve received if four whites had broken into a black doctor’s home and murdered him instead.

A 19-year-old man will serve 50 years in prison for the home burglary and murder of an Indiana University School of Medicine doctor in 2017.

Devon Seats had tried to back out of a deal with prosecutors, but a judge said upheld the Seats’ original agreement to accept the plea agreement.

Dr. Kevin Rodgers, 61, a faculty member at the Indiana University School of Medicine, was killed by gunfire during the burglary Nov. 20, 2017, at his home in the 7500 block of Ballenshire South Drive.

Seats was one of four men charged in the case.
