China: Man Living in Airport for 14 Years to Get Away from His Family

The first time a friend invited me to Hong Kong I was like “the hostels are too expensive” and he was like “just stay at the airport, bro, it’s really nice.”

Any man is lucky to live in a Chinese airport. Especially if he can get away from his family.

India Times:

If you’ve ever waited for your flight at an airport, you would know what a different experience it is. There are all sorts of people you find there. Some are looking for a bite, some are shopping, some rushing to board their flights and some are just chilling there. But have you ever imagined living at the airport?

Well, a Chinese man who wanted to escape his family has been living at the Beijing International Airport for over 14 years now.

Wei Jianguo from Beijing left his home in 2008 after quarrelling with his wife. He has since chosen to spend days and nights at the Beijing Capital International Airport, which has three terminals. He has been putting up at Terminal 2.

The man is jobless and loves living at the airport. He says he can drink and eat at will.

He told the China Daily: “I can’t go back home because I have no freedom there. “My family told me if I wanted to stay, I had to quit smoking and drinking. If I couldn’t do that, I had to give them all my monthly government allowance of 1,000 yuan (AU$200). But then how would I buy my cigarettes and alcohol?”

The man has set up a mobile kitchen using an electric cooker he had brought from home. Other times, he would go around the airport to buy the food he likes.

That’s the good life.

Smoking, drinking, eating, chatting up randos. Chinese airports are the promised land of NEETs.

You can even still smoke at the Beijing Airport, unlike Hong Kong, which has a lot of gay morons who will be like “hey kid, no smoking” and I’m like “dude, I’m 35 and also why can’t I smoke? Did you know this is China, buddy? China is a smoker friendly country.”
