Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered troops into two separatist-held regions in eastern Ukraine, calling it a peace-keeping mission, but the U.S. and European allies have condemned the move, labeling it a direct violation of international law.

President Joe Biden has promised swift sanctions and the United Kingdom is expected to do the same.

The National Desk spoke with political commentator Armstrong Williams, who says it’s unlikely that the efforts by the U.S. and NATO will deter Putin.

“The biggest problem is that in 2014 when he went into and Crimea was successful, what did the United States and NATO do? Absolutely nothing. And that set the precedent for today,” he said.

So exhausting.

Putin went into Crimea because the US threw a coup to overthrow an elected government by funding a riot and then hiring snipers to shoot protesters to make it look like the government did it.

The US got away with stealing the overwhelming majority of the Ukraine, and called it a day. In fact, not doing anything about Crimea (not that there was much they could have done) allowed them to bitch and moan about Russia and paint them as the ultimate comic book villain of the earth for the last 8 years.

Williams says Putin is working to minimize Western influence in the region and will continue his push for Russian dominance.

“He wants the old Russia back he does,” Williams said. “Ukraine was once a major part of their rich legacy and he wants it back.”

As the world waits to see what Russia will do, there are major concerns about the economic impact of an invasion. With crippling inflation already hitting the U.S. economy hard, Williams believes many Americans are questioning the government’s use of resources at this time.

“Biden has the troops there. He’s saying the troops will not go into battle. So many people ask, why are you spending all the resources that happen there if you’re not going to put them to use?” he said.

These sanctions that they have drawn up for Russia would crush the US economy. You’ve also got China standing around observing the situation, squinting as they calculate their own response (I don’t know if they’re actually squinting). If China endorses Putin’s move – which they probably will – then that would mean the US would also be obligated to sanction China, at which point we basically all starve to death.

Here’s another key point.

Williams also says that this conflict has brought the question of America’s global strength into play and that while eyes are on Eastern Europe, there is also a spotlight on U.S. leadership.

“For Putin, he’s waited a long time for this opportunity to see weakness in American foreign policy. The Chinese, they’re sitting back watching this,” he said.

The US having been totally incapable of managing this situation after throwing a fit like a little girl almost makes them look more incompetent than the Afghan withdrawal made them look.

I mean, they were all over the place, whining like babies about the invasion of the Ukraine, and how “decisively” they would respond.

Well, the invasion is here!

Biden hasn’t commented yet. But if he had an arsenal of decisiveness at his fingertips, he would have immediately responded. Instead, he’s going to do meaningless fake sanctions, and prance around on a moral high horse screeching about “democracy values.”

Then, he’ll continue to abuse the American people even worse than he already is.

It’s like a guy who gets mad at someone at work and then doesn’t assert himself and instead goes home and beats up his kids.

This situation of the United States totally losing its status on the world stage is incredible to watch.

It’s just amazing that there is no adult in the room.

It wasn’t hard to predict that Putin wanted the Donbass. Instead of just saying that, the West hyped up a lunatic scenario where Russia was planning to sack Kiev.

That’s pronounced “Key-Ev,” by the way. Not “Keev,” as for whatever reason the US media has taken to pronouncing it.

There is of course a direct relationship between the abuse of the American people and the inability of the US to project power on the world stage. If you want to be a powerful country, you have to have a population that is patriotic and really hyped about supporting you and your global agenda. If your population hates you because you do nothing but abuse them, it makes it really hard to get them to give a shit about your global ambitions.

The Democrats have largely lost the people, other than a sycophantic core of rich liberals. But we just watched Canada totally lose control of their situation. The whole thing is unraveling, because these people running things are completely disconnected from reality, and literally have no idea what is even going on. The only thing they care about is creating a world government where they can use emerging technologies and genetic engineering to turn themselves into immortal cyborgs and rape kids all day on spaceships.

That’s first and foremost a weird ambition, but it is more importantly not a goal you can rally the people around, in the way that America rallied the people around consumerism and general heathenism in the post-war era.

If China takes Taiwan, the jig is officially up. The dollar collapses, which means there is no way to fund the war machine, and the whole Empire just falls apart.
