Oops

Zuckerberg recently announced that he wanted Facebook chats to turn into some kind of beacon of privacy. Shortly after that, a Facebook bug that allowed hackers to know who users have been chatting with was revealed.

Now it’s been reveled that Facebook stored user passwords in plain text for years. This means that the passwords could be read just as you’re reading this text now.

What’s funnier is that Facebook only learned about this problem this past January.

Daily Mail:

Hundreds of millions of Facebook users may have had their passwords exposed as the result of an alarming oversight by the social media company.

This includes Facebook, Facebook Lite, and Instagram users.

The shocking vulnerability was first revealed by security researcher Brian Krebs, who reports that Facebook left the passwords of 200 million to 600 million users stored in plain text.

That means the information was readable and searchable by more than 20,000 Facebook employees, in some cases dating as far back as 2012.

The company only first learned of the issue this past January.

Facebook has since confirmed the shocking security failure, but insists it has fixed the issue and has not found any evidence that the information was ‘abused.’

Users’ passwords are typically stored in a way that masks the text and makes them unreadable even to employees.

It’s so far unclear what caused some users’ passwords to be left exposed.

‘To be clear, these passwords were never visible to anyone outside of Facebook and we have found no evidence to date that anyone internally abused or improperly accessed them,’ Facebook says.

Does that sound like the kind of company someone could trust for anything? No wonder people are abandoning Facebook. The problem is that Facebook also owns WhatsApp and Instagram, which are widely used by average people on a daily basis.

If you want to be social nowadays, chances are you’ll have to use at least one of those Facebook-owned things. You shouldn’t avoid these things because you shouldn’t avoid being social. On the contrary, you should be social. You should network with people and you should be a part of society. We can’t really do much to influence change if we remove ourselves from society, and we definitely want to change things. We want to win.

In order to fight effectively without having your life ruined by mobs of puppets, you should blend in as much as possible while giving your enemies the least possible amount of information about you. This means acting like a good goy when using good goy stuff such as WhatsApp and Instagram.

Don’t trust anything from Facebook or Google with your true views.

Hide your power level from women.

Hide your power level from transgenders.

Hide your power level from scheming overpowered aliens.

Hide your power level from the diverse-skinned.

But never stop increasing your power level. Never stop training. Never stop improving yourself. Never stop evolving.

Challenge yourself. Set goals and achieve them, no matter how small you think they are. Keep doing that, aiming higher and higher.

Surprise your enemies.

Destroy them.

Then go back to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber and train some more.

Get stronger.
