Many French are known to be what you might call “trad babies,” in that they have often cried about certain aspects of modernity that they view as being forced on them by America.
In particular, they’ve been, at least in words, opposed to advertisements and consumerism. This may or may not be framed in terms of some kind of Marxism, but at heart, the instinct appears to be a noble one – they dislike the fact that the “American” culture of mass materialism has become a necessary driver of economic growth, which all cultures are forced to participate in at the expense of their own national identities.
I have generally resented the “you Americans” whiny nature of the complaints, especially given that the roots of lowest common denominator mass democracy – from whence this vile global consumerism has emerged – can largely be found as having grown out of the French Revolution.
The French were also the first country to try in earnest the “multicultural society,” which is required to seek the lowest common denominator of human behavior – “we want bigger, cheaper TVs to watch Netflix on” – as a rallying point.
Even while noting the hypocrisy, I have also acknowledged that these French whiners certainly have a valid point: the “consumer identity” is all-consuming, and as an American dissident, there is little that is more disheartening than going across the world to see everyone wearing Nike and eating McDonald’s while humming along to Miley Cyrus.
So when I read that the French were trying to ban Black Friday, I naively assumed that it was some kind of trad baby thing, and that they were disgusted by whatever local winter traditions they have being invaded by this gross display of decadence.
But no.
It turns out it’s some Greta Thunberg global warming bullshit.
This is funny, because Greta is arguably the exact opposite of the former thing, in that a little retarded girl claiming to be smarter than and morally superior to the entire rest of the world, and being celebrated as such by global digital mass media as she is being used as a battering ram against the last remnants of the old social order, is the final, vile manifestation of puritanical peasant pseudo-virtue being used as a weapon against tradition.
Dozens of French activists blocked an Amazon warehouse south of Paris in a Black Friday-inspired protest, amid increased opposition to the post-Thanksgiving sales phenomenon that has seen a group of French lawmakers push to ban it altogether.
Protesters from climate group Amis de la terre (Friends of the Earth) spread hay and old refrigerators and microwaves on the driveway leading to the warehouse in Bretigny-sur-Orge on Thursday. They held signs in front of the gates reading “Amazon: For the climate, for jobs, stop expansion, stop over-production!”
The activists were later dislodged by police. But more demonstrations are expected as Black Friday looms into view. French climate groups are planning “Block Friday” demonstrations Friday.
Their objections are garnering some support within France’s National Assembly. Some French lawmakers want to ban Black Friday, which has morphed into a global phenomenon even though it stems from a specifically U.S. holiday: Thanksgiving Thursday.
A French legislative committee passed an amendment Monday that proposes prohibiting Black Friday since it causes “resource waste” and “overconsumption.”
The amendment, which was put forward by France’s former environment minister, Delphine Batho, will be debated next month. France’s e-commerce union has condemned it.
Under the amendment, “aggressive commercial practices” would be punishable by imprisonment and a maximum fine of 300,000 euros ($330,000). Not surprisingly, France’s e-commerce union has condemned it.
I suspect that some of these “green” politicians are getting support from French people who don’t like consumerism, and don’t like the encroachment of consumer culture.
The French – and all of the other white leftists following the little retarded girl – are too tied up in their romantic fantasies to realize that it is shallow sentimentalism and the destabilization that it leads to that results in the ability of the financial class to reduce us all to the lowest common denominator, which is always going to be “producer-consumer.”
Amazon of course supports the global warming agenda, as it is going to result in less consumption with the same amount of producing, backed up by global financial controls that ensure you have to pay the same for less.
“Global warming” is an advertising campaign, and all of the weepy revolutionaries that go along with it are going to get what they deserve.
“The revolution will not be televised on a 64″ Samsung Smart TV.”
“You’ll have to watch it on a tablet in your pod.”
Material decadence is the last stand of implicit personal autonomy.
