PennLive:

Before dying of his wounds, Dain Vollrath was able to give officers a description of the man who shot him late in the night on Dec. 14, police said.

Juan Garcia, 25, of Harrisburg, has been charged with homicide in connection with the shooting. Police also said Garcia shot himself as he fought with Vollrath over the firearm, according to court documents.

According to the criminal complaint:

Officers in Swatara Township were dispatched at around 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 14 to the 5000 block of Pajabon Drive for a report of a man shot. Officers found Vollrath lying in the foyer of the apartment with multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

Vollrath told officers the man who shot him was wearing a ski mask and had fled. Vollrath also said he fought with the man as he tried to get the gun away, police said.

On Dec. 23, officers spoke with Juan Garcia’s father, Miguel. Miguel told officers that he was concerned about his son’s safety and that his son said he “needed to get out of town,” police said. Miguel said his son wanted money for a bus ticket to New Jersey.

Miguel also told police that when he met with Garcia at a car wash on Derry Street, he was walking with a limp as though he was hurt.

Miguel said Garcia got in touch with him again on Saturday at a residence on Montour Street. During that time, Garcia told his father that he received information that drugs were being sold out of Vollrath’s apartment so he decided to rob the place, police said.
