Aside from Serbia, which is actively pro-Russian (the people basically identify as Russian), Hungary is the only country in the East of Europe that can maintain basic composure when thinking about Russia.
However, there is no real reason that Romania shouldn’t join them. Romania is also non-Slavic, was not heavily colonized by Russians during the USSR period, and just doesn’t have the same base level of outrage over Russia.
It’s interesting that Orban gave this speech in Hungary.
RT:
The Russia-Ukraine conflict could end the West’s dominance and shift the balance of power in the world, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said. Russia launched a military campaign against the neighboring country in late February.
Orban argued that the decision to impose sanctions on Moscow and supply Kiev with heavy weapons de facto turned the EU and NATO member states into participants in the conflict, but ultimately yielded no results.
“Instead, today we are sitting inside a car with flat tires on all four wheels,” Orban said in a speech in the Romanian city of Baile Tusnad on Saturday.
“The world is not only not with us, but it is demonstratively not with us,” the PM added, arguing that, instead of thinking about gaining the upper hand on the battlefield in Ukraine, the West should now focus on achieving peace through negotiations.
Who knows how these things get translated. But I’m pretty sure he meant to say “the world is against us.”
The entire world, outside of “The West,” is looking at the war in the Ukraine, this totally senseless destruction the West is causing while blaming the other side, and more importantly, looking at the economic consequences of causing random people to die for no reason. They are looking with shock and disgust.
The West has basically lost India and Saudi Arabia at an extremely rapid speed. For what purpose? Even if it is “because we hate Russians,” Russia is not even being harmed. The sanctions failed and they are destroying tens of billions in US/NATO equipment while the Jews in Kiev giggle and rack up zeros in their bank accounts.
Orban also warned that the conflict could easily put an end to Western supremacy and “create a multipolar world order.”
“We must try to persuade the West to develop a new strategy,” the PM said. He later added that the conflict “will end when the Americans and the Russians come to an agreement.”
Hungary has refused to send weapons to Ukraine, while Orban said this month that the EU “shot itself in the lungs” with its ill-considered sanctions. Hungarian officials also criticized the proposal by Brussels to ration gas in an attempt to phase out deliveries from Moscow.
There is going to be a New World Order and the EU is going to break apart like the USSR broke apart. It’s funny that so many people are going to live to have been a part of a collapsing East and then a collapsing West.
Countries all over the world are smelling blood in the water with the way that the US/NATO has dealt with the Ukraine, and they’re scrambling for the exit. It’s no wonder we’re seeing so many mixed metaphors lately.
My view of Orban for like, 10 years, has been summed up by this cartoon:
But now it seems either he changed his mind or I misjudged him. Or maybe he was just always extremely pragmatic and the pragmatic thing to do at this point is to side with Russia.
You have to wonder how much pressure the “European Project” can withstand, when you’ve got NATO member Erdogan meeting in Tehran with Putin and EU member states openly denouncing the EU as destroying the world order – while at the same time, the continent is facing what appears to be a total economic collapse.
As far as I can tell, the women who run the EU are not especially concerned about any of this, so either they’ve got a master plan or they’re just really dumb.
