An Aurora man has been charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of a 20-year-old woman.
Marcos Gutierrez, 21, was advised Monday in Adams County court, by video appearance, of the charge against him, according to a 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office news release.
On April 11, Aurora police responded to a 911 call and went to an apartment in the 1900 block of Peoria Street where they found Airica May Beaty bleeding from stab wounds, the release said. She was taken to University of Colorado Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
When officers arrived at the apartment, they found Gutierrez naked and covered in blood, lying in a fetal position on the kitchen floor, according to an arrest warrant in the case.
The arrest warrant alleges, based on interviews with two witnesses who were inside the residence at the time of the incident, that the defendant and victim were both under the influence of LSD.
At one point, Gutierrez allegedly loaded a rifle and said that he was going to shoot himself. He was disarmed and a short time later came upon Beaty from behind, reaching around and slitting her throat with a knife. The pair fell to the floor.
“Why did you do that, what did you do,” said Beaty, according to the affidavit.
Gutierrez has been charged with one count of first-degree murder after deliberation.
