A woman has been sentenced to life in prison for the July 2016 shooting deaths of two people in the leasing office at a Grand Blanc apartment complex.
Genesee Circuit Judge Joseph J. Farah handed down the sentence Tuesday, Aug. 6 against Jacquelyne F. Tyson, 57.
She was found guilty July 9 by Farah following a non-jury trial on charges of first-degree murder and second-degree murder in the deaths of 45-year-old Tamara Johnson and 20-year Lyric Work.
Tyson was sentenced to life on both counts.
Farah ruled Johnson’s shooting to be second-degree murder and Work’s shooting to be first-degree murder. The case has been moving through the court system for years.
The judge also ruled Tyson to be mentally ill, but he rejected an insanity plea following a non-jury trial.
Tyson was arrested on suspicion of the shooting shortly after police arrived at the leasing office of Grand Oaks Apartments, 11284 Grand Oak Dr., shortly before 3:45 p.m. July 26, 2016.
Work was 33 weeks pregnant at the time of the shooting and her baby girl, Marley, was delivered by cesarean section seven weeks early, according to MLive-The Flint Journal records.
