Proving once again that the only people who believe in free speech are evil Russian communists, this happened.
Parler, a social media website and app popular with the American far right, has partially returned online with the help of a Russian-owned technology company.
Parler vanished from the internet when dropped by Amazon Inc’s hosting arm and other partners for poor moderation after its users called for violence and posted videos glorifying the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
On Monday, Parler’s website was reachable again, though only with a message from its chief executive saying he was working to restore functionality.
The internet protocol address it used is owned by DDos-Guard, which is controlled by two Russian men and provides services including protection from distributed denial of service attacks, infrastructure expert Ronald Guilmette told Reuters.
If the website is fully restored, Parler users would be able to see and post comments. Most users prefer the app, however, which remains banned from the official Apple Inc and Google stores.
Parler CEO John Matze and representatives of DDoS-Guard did not reply to requests for comment.
The Russian support for free speech, a fascist ideology, has long been a sticking point between the West and the East. Advocates of democracy say that anyone who ever says anything that someone disagrees with should be punished and possibly imprisoned, while the fascists believe people should be able to say whatever they want, regardless of whose feelings might be hurt.
The Russians have an old saying that goes: “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” This is in stark contrast to the American phrase, “sticks and stones may break my bones, but mean words are like dropping an atomic bomb on my soul.”
The terroristic speech activities of these domestic terrorists colluding with these Russian hackers was inevitable, but it cannot stand. America cannot become a country where people are allowed to say things that hurt people’s feelings. It’s not our values and it’s not who we are.
We need to leave all options on the table, including nuking Moscow if they continue to promote free speech in America.
