The framing here is dishonest: they say that the Republican voters’ support for the refugees dropped because of statements by conservative figures, but the only reason the support was high in the first place was that people like “Jewish conservative” Mark Levin were saying that we had to own the libs by bringing in the refugees.
The media never lets us forget that normal white men are evil and don’t support immigration, but now all of a sudden it is Fox News’ fault.
Republicans have become more skeptical about whether refugees fleeing Afghanistan should be allowed to come to the United States, according to a new Yahoo News/YouGov poll. The shift in Republican attitudes toward helping vulnerable Afghans following the U.S. military’s withdrawal from the country seems to reflect the recent promotion of anti-refugee rhetoric by several prominent conservative figures.
The survey of 1,605 U.S. adults, which was conducted from Aug. 30 to Sept. 1, found that overall support for resettling Afghan refugees in the United States has declined over the previous two weeks from 49 percent to 44 percent, while uncertainty over the issue has grown by 7 percent — with 34 percent of respondents saying they are “not sure” whether refugees fleeing Afghanistan should be allowed to come to the U.S., compared with 27 percent two weeks earlier.
This shift has been driven almost entirely by Republicans, whose support for Afghan refugees coming to the U.S. dropped from 40 percent to 32 percent, while their uncertainty increased by 12 percentage points, from 24 percent to 36 percent. Opposition to helping Afghan refugees also dipped during this time period, though much less significantly, from 24 percent to 22 percent overall, and from 37 percent to 31 percent among Republicans.
The fate of vulnerable Afghans, particularly those who assisted the U.S.-led military coalition over the last 20 years, has been the subject of mounting, largely bipartisan concern since President Biden announced in April that U.S. troops would withdraw from the country by Aug. 31. Last month, after the Afghan government and military collapsed, allowing the Taliban to quickly seize power, Republicans and Democrats alike criticized Biden for failing to begin mass evacuations sooner, with many urging him to delay the withdrawal in order to ensure the safety of Afghan translators, drivers, guides and others, along with their families, whose affiliations with the U.S. government put them at heightened risk of reprisals from the Taliban.
But as the U.S. military scrambled to evacuate more than 124,000 civilians, most of them Afghans, from the country before its final departure from Kabul this week, some of the loudest voices on the far right have deviated from the GOP rank and file, who have traditionally been in favor of protecting those who’ve risked their lives to help Americans.
Firstly, the collaborators didn’t “risk their lives to help Americans.” They risked their lives to get paid by Americans. Anyone who actually qualifies as a collaborator was just a mercenary.
Secondly, what were the collaborators “helping Americans” to do? Promote feminism and gay sex? Why would anyone agree to do that in the first place unless they were a scumbag and the criminal element?
Thirdly, most of these people are not actually even collaborators. The US government admits they don’t even know who most of the people they’re bringing in are. It follows logically that the overwhelming majority are just randos seeking to live on welfare.

Fourthly – who was “traditionally in favor” of flooding the country with Afghan translators? Republican politicians, or Republican voters?
The article then claims that Tucker Carlson and Donald Trump are against bringing these people in. I know that this is true of Tucker, but I have not seen this from Trump. Last I saw, he was saying that Biden didn’t bring in enough refugees fast enough. But I’ll believe it.
What the article doesn’t mention is that Jews like Levin, along with Sean Hannity especially, have been aggressively denouncing Joe Biden for not flooding the entire country with Afghans. Mark Levin, appearing on Hannity, said that the Afghans were like Anne Frank, and it was the duty of Americans to bring them all into our country to save them from a Holocaust by the Taliban.
If the media wasn’t garbage, that would actually be the interesting angle here – the fact that Republicans were, for the first time that I’ve seen, actively being encouraged to “own the libs” by flooding the country with refugees.
I guess you had some of this with Ted Cruz, shortly after Biden was elected, going to the Mexican border and trying to own the libs by saying that Biden was “keeping children in cages” and that they should be freed to flood into our country.
Anyway – I would think it would be interesting to the liberal readers of this material to know that if there is a Democrat president, all of a sudden conservatives like Hannity and Cruz would start trying to own him by supporting a sludge flood of immigration.
Anyway.
I’m gonna go ahead and believe this poll.
I’m glad to see people returning to reason after getting sucked into some lunatic “Dems are the real refugee abandoners” gibberish.
One thing I have to say about this whole “Afghan refugees” thing – the Taliban is being really good, and saying they don’t want people to leave. What’s more, they’ve said they will take back anyone who left during the war, including people who have been convicted of crimes in white countries.
