Russia Says US Shouldn’t Organize Illegal Anti-Government Protests in Their Country

Russian democracy haters say it is wrong for the US to help organize illegal protests against a legally elected president, in support of someone who lost an election.

Can you imagine the evil?

The Hill:

Kremlin officials blasted the U.S. government for expressing support for protests that swept Russia in support of arrested opposition leader Alexey Navalny, accusing the U.S. of backing violations of the law.

The protests, which drew tens of thousands of demonstrators, led police to make thousands of arrests. U.S. officials making statements in support of the demonstrators and condemning the police response included the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, the State Department, Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) and Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas), the top Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

“The U.S. supports the right of all people to peaceful protest, freedom of expression,” embassy spokeswoman Rebecca Ross tweeted. “Steps being taken by Russian authorities are suppressing those rights.”

Dmitry Peskov, a spokesperson for Russian President Vladimir Putin, said in a statement that U.S. officials’ reactions “indirectly constitute absolute interference in our internal affairs” and are “direct support for the violation of the law of the Russian Federation, support for unauthorized actions,” according to The Associated Press.

“Many will say that many people came out for the illegal actions,” Peskov added. “No, few people came out; many people vote for Putin.”

Okay so look, let’s just pull back a second and be real here.

If you knew nothing about either country or their situation, there would literally be no difference between pro-Trump protests and pro-Navalny protests. They are literally the exact, identical context, of a presidential candidate who is declared the loser of an election sending his supporters out in the street.

That’s without going into the data around the fact that Trump obviously won and Navalny obviously lost, based on any honest person’s objective analysis.

But just assume no one knows about that.

They’re the same situation.

Can you imagine if Russia started posting encouragements of pro-Trump protests, telling people locations of where to meet up?

This is like asking “what if it was white parents who beat a black toddler to death, instead of the reverse?”

I’m as tired of “what if it was the reverse?” as anyone, but it is just getting so stupid, that there is nothing else you can say.

Anyway.

Western countries are demanding Navalny be freed.

Please, someone tell Putin to say he can be free if he surrenders his passport and leaves the country.

Creating this martyr was the stupidest possible thing the Russian government could have done, and they’re going to get screwed if they don’t get rid of this guy.
