There is a way to prevent these kinds of home invasions from occurring in the future.

It does involve reinstating slavery though, which might be considered mean.

Prosecutors have charged a third suspect in connection with the recent shooting death of a man inside his Bay City home.

Officers with the Bay City VIPER Unit/Safe Streets Task Force on July 31 arrested 24-year-old Devon J. Knights on a parole violation charge in his hometown of Saginaw. They were assisted by FBI agents and Michigan State Police troopers.

While Knights was being held in jail, authorities on Thursday, Aug. 8, issued a warrant for him on charges of first-degree murder and first-degree home invasion in connection with the July 29 killing of Tyler R. Gruber, a 39-year-old father.

Bay County District Judge Mark E. Janer on Friday morning arraigned Knights on the two charges.

Police responded to a reported shooting at about 1:30 a.m. at Gruber’s home at 505 N. Henry St. on the city’s West Side. Upon officers’ arrival, Gruber was already dead from more than one gunshot wound, police have said.

Before police arrived, a good Samaritan picked up Brandon M. Miller, who was lying in the roadway after having sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. This other person drove Miller to McLaren Bay Region hospital and from there he was transported to Hurley Medical Center in Flint.

Knight and 27-year-old Brandon M. Dupuis fled the scene before officers arrived, police allege.

The first two suspects: Brandon Miller, left, and Brandon “Honorary Nigger” Dupuis.

Gruber’s girlfriend, son, and an adult male roommate were present when the shooting occurred, police said.

Michigan State Police troopers on July 30 spotted Dupuis walking down a Saginaw street and arrested him.

Dupuis is charged with single counts of open murder, first-degree murder, first-degree home invasion, and assault with intent to murder, as well as four counts of felony firearm. Miller is charged with first-degree murder and first-degree home invasion.

Bay City Public Safety Capt. Caleb Rowell told MLive Friday morning that Knights is believed to be the final suspect in the case.
