The US Diplomatic Mission in the Rainbow Utopia of South Africa is warning American citizens not to go anywhere near Pretoria zoo, as the creatures outside the cages have become more dangerous than the ones within.

Not that there are likely to be many animals left alive and uneaten by their new owners in the cages anyway.

IOL:

Pretoria – US citizens touring or living in South Africa who planned to visit the Pretoria Zoo were advised on Friday not to do so.

The United States diplomatic mission cautioned citizens to be on the alert while touring the country.

According to the embassy, there had been “a number of armed robberies committed recently against visitors to the Pretoria Zoo.

“Due to these events the… mission to South Africa advises US citizens to avoid visiting the Pretoria Zoo until the security situation at the zoo improves,” the embassy said.

Americans were further urged to remain vigilant in protecting themselves from violent crimes while in South Africa as assaults, armed robberies and other crimes were prevalent around hotels, tourist attractions and public transportation centres in major cities.

“Review your personal security plans, remain aware of your surroundings, maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security.”

The SA Police Service and the Pretoria Zoo were not immediately available for comment.
