You can go watch video of Antony Blinken. He is no Henry Kissinger, he is not even a William Kristol. He is dumb and insecure. The fact that he stutters and gets nervous doesn’t mean he’s stupid. But you can watch long-form interviews with him on YouTube. He literally has no understanding of geopolitics beyond slogans.
If Blinken was a Kissinger-tier Jew, everything would be different, and there would be some kind of leadership in the administration. But as far as anyone is able to tell, there is no leadership. People talk about the administration as if there is leadership, but no one can say who it is.
People will put forward theories – Susan Rice and Barack Obama are popular proposals. But neither of these people were ever actually leaders themselves, but just apparatchiks. The Obama Administration was run by people like James Clapper, John Brennen, Rahm Emanuel (and his family), James Comey, Samantha Power, and via Victoria Nuland and Hillary Clinton, a gaggle of neoconservatives. Granted, a lot of those people are in the current administration, but Obama was a capable figurehead.
But the bigger point is: there was no crisis. The Obama Administration was on cruise control. There was no daylight between the Obama people and the eurocrats, so you did have a unified Western liberal order.
I think history will remember Donald Trump as really breaking this. If Hillary would have won, the system could have remained in cruise control. But Trump winning required all of these weird maneuvers, and resulted in hyper neurosis of the Jews, which created the current state of crisis.
But maybe that’s wrong. Hillary was campaigning on shooting down Russian jets over Syria to protect ISIS. So it’s possible a Hillary Administration would have stretched things just as thin as they’re stretched now, as global neoliberalism is hitting a hard wall.
But…
If these people would have not done the coronavirus, and not done the Ukraine, they would still have options in terms of confronting China.
Now, there are literally no options.
