The prosecutors will be presenting DNA evidence at the trial, and we all know how much those genetics tests hate blacks.
In opening statements Monday, the prosecution said it had DNA evidence linking Devaughn Tyrone Drew to the 2017 slaying of Destiny Boccone, while the defense said it would present alibi witnesses to testify he was elsewhere when she was shot.
Drew, 34, is charged with first-degree murder and other offenses in the Nov. 19, 2017, killing of Boccone, 23. She was shot twice in the head while in the driver’s seat of her car in the 11000 block of Dogwood Drive in the Halfway area.
Drew pleaded guilty in May 2012 to one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine. He was sentenced in Washington County Circuit Court to serve six years in state prison and was released two days before Boccone was killed.
In her opening statement to the jury, Deputy State’s Attorney Gina Cirincion said the prosecution’s evidence included a “distinctive” baseball cap on which Boccone’s blood and Drew’s DNA were found.
The fatal shots were fired from the backseat of Boccone’s vehicle, and Cirincion said there was video evidence that another man, Donovan Watts, was sitting in the front passenger’s seat just minutes before the killing.
A woman called 911 shortly before 11 p.m., reporting a car had crashed into a tree next door and that she saw two men leaving the scene on foot.
Drew and Watts were caught on a private surveillance camera nearby, Cirincion said. In the Noland Village apartment complex, Drew and Watts were picked up by a cab and driven to another location, she said.
