A carer has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a vulnerable woman who has cerebral palsy.
Frank Iyamu, 56, was told to prepare himself for prison after being convicted of sexual assault, after a jury rejected his denials.
Prosecutors said Iyamu may have done it to ‘humiliate’ his victim.
Iyamu was an agency worker employed at a respite centre in north Manchester, where the woman had attended for many years.
She uses a wheelchair, but sometimes gets around on her hands and knees, and is well known to staff there.
Iyamu, from Gorton, was working his first shift at the centre when he assaulted the woman, in her 30s at the time.
The woman, who can’t live independently, was in the kitchen area of the centre when she came across Iyamu.
Prosecuting, Peter Cadwallader said that Iyamu ‘beckoned’ her over.
It was then that the assault took place, the court heard, when Iyamu sexually touched her.
She then went back to her bedroom and shut the door behind her.
Another carer who knew the woman previously noticed she was not in the lounge area of the centre, where she spent a lot of time.
The carer knocked on her door, and found that the woman was blocking the door so it couldn’t be opened.
She spoke to her and managed to get her to open it.
The woman told Iyamu she wanted him to leave.
She cried and at first said she was upset because Iyamu had forced her to eat a meal.
Later she disclosed what Iyamu had actually done.
